JPS Superintendent issues statement on situation involving marijuana possession at Washington Middle School Wednesday afternoon...

Jamestown police and school district officials are continuing to investigate a situation where a "number of students" were allegedly found in possession of... or having knowledge of marijuana at Washington Middle School.  School Superintendent Tim Mains says the incident was reported late yesterday afternoon by the school principal.  Mains says they took "swift and decisive action..." and, called Jamestown police to assist in the investigation.  Officials say the school was in lock-down for a short period of time.  Mains says "all students involved in the situation are being dealt with according to district disciplinary guidelines."  Mains says no identifies are being released.  He adds that -- "I take this situation seriously, and I ask for your help in addressing the important issue of drugs in the schools.  Mains says if any person in the community has knowledge of drugs in any Jamestown school... he asks you to contact the principal... or his office immediately.  He says the district -- "has a zero tolerance policy for drugs in our schools and will take swift and appropriate action against anyone violating that policy."  Mains is out of town and not available for comment today.  City Police Chief Harry Snellings says their officers, and K-9 unit were involved, but, declined further comment.


Sheriff's officers investigating possible abduction attempt; praise teen for walking away...

Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers are on the look-out for a middle-aged, white male who allegedly tried a lure a female youth into his SUV near Silver Creek Central School late yesterday.  Deputies were called to the scene on Bennett State Road just before 4 p.m. Wednesday on the report of a man... who's described as between 50 and 60 years-old... asking the girl -- who was reportedly in her early teens -- if she needed a ride.  Officers say the girl did not get in the SUV... and, walked away from the car.  The suspect is further described as having an average build... and, was wearing glasses... with white hair... and, a mustache. Deputies say they wanted to alert the public to the situation... and, ask anyone with information on the situation to contact the Sheriff's Office... or your local police agency.
